Generally speaking, beneficence means actions that are done for the good of others, such as preventing harm or improving the situation of other people. When applied in a clinical setting, beneficence is promoting the good of the patient. This includes preventing or removing harms, and balancing possible benefits with possible risks of an action to promote the welfare of the patient.
