A small, cylindrical genital structure of erectile tissue located at the anterior junction of the labia minora in the female that is analogous to the tissue of the male penis. The clitoris is often described by three structural regions:
- internally, the crura (two sections of erectile tissue forming a V-shape) support the exterior structure of the clitoris (the body) and attach to underlying tissue;
- the cylindrical body of the clitoris extends from the crura and contains two columns of erectile tissue; and
- externally, the glans (bulb or tip of the clitoris) extends outward from the clitoral body and is entirely or partially covered by the prepuce (clitoral hood).
