A barrier form of birth control (contraception) consisting of a thin, membranous sheath (e.g., latex, polyurethane, lambskin, polyisoprene), which prevents pregnancy by blocking sperm from entering the uterus during intercourse. Also serves as a barrier to reduce the transmission of sexually transmitted infections.
