An abnormality that has occurred in utero and is present at birth, although it may or may not be noticeable at birth; also called a birth defect. Includes any number of functional or structural anomalies, such as a spinal column defect, variations of genitalia, cardiac malformation, etc. Some anomalies may not be discovered until later in childhood or even adulthood.
