A substance of various chemical compositions used to reduce friction between parts that move against each other. May be used during procedures (e.g., digital rectal examination, insertion of an anoscope) or activities (e.g., sexual intercourse) for the purpose of reducing friction between surfaces so as to avoid discomfort and/or irritation of the tissue.
