An infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae, usually sexually transmitted and most often affecting the reproductive organs, eyes, or oral cavity. When gonococcal infection is present as a result of sexual transmission, co-infection with chlamydia is common. Common term referencing gonococcal infection of the genitalia is gonorrhea.
