Although this term may refer to the external opening of any body cavity, it traditionally and most often refers to the oral cavity. In this sense, the mouth is the space within the cheeks containing the tongue, teeth, and gums. Serves as the orifice through which food is consumed and one orifice through which air enters the respiratory system.
