A clinical symptom, circumstance, condition indicating that the use of an otherwise advisable intervention would be inappropriate. A contraindication may be absolute or relative. An absolute contraindication is a situation which makes a treatment or procedure absolutely inadvisable. A relative contraindication is a condition which makes a treatment or procedure somewhat inadvisable but does not rule it out.
