A small, rigid, tubular instrument that is inserted into the anus for visualization of the anal canal and lower portion of the rectum. A lubricated anoscope with a light source may be used during a forensic-medical examination to collect rectal samples (i.e., using a cotton tipped applicator or other type of swab) distal to the anoscope, and assess for clinical findings or injury. Findings during a forensic-medical examination using an anoscope may include but are not limited to normal tissue, debris, inflammation, fissures, abrasions, abscesses, polyps, and hemorrhoids.
