“A systematic, dynamic process by which the registered nurse, through interaction with the patient, family, groups, communities, populations, and healthcare providers, collects and analyzes data. Assessment may include the following dimensions: physical, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, cognitive, functional abilities, developmental, economic, and lifestyle” (ANA 2015: Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice). The “A” in ADPIE, the acronym for the nursing process, represents assessment.
