The state or quality of being elastic or distensible; the ability to return to original size and shape after compression or stretching. Clinical forensic providers may refer to the elasticity of estrogenized hymenal tissue when describing the ability of the hymen to stretch to accommodate insertion of an object (e.g., speculum, penis) or manipulation during physical examination (e.g., labial traction, Foley catheter technique).
