A mass of dilated veins in the anorectal region resulting from persistent, increased venous pressure. External hemorrhoids occur at the juncture of the anal mucosa and the anal skin; internal hemorrhoids occur inside the rectum. Bleeding, itching, and/or pain are common symptoms.
