Actions that place a person at increased risk of suffering a harmful consequence, such as illness or injury. An example is sexual intercourse with a new partner without the use of a barrier contraceptive, an action that increases the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted infection, or the use of dirty needles for IV drug injection, which increases the risk of contracting a bloodborne disease.
