A congenital condition also referred to as congenital megacolon, whereby the nerves that trigger contractions in the distal colon are missing and do not contribute to moving fecal matter through the bowel. If not diagnosed and treated, the condition results in blockage and subsequent chronic obstruction, distention, and enlargement of the distal colon.
