A progestin hormone used for emergency contraception to prevent pregnancy following unprotected vaginal intercourse or a failed birth control method (e.g., broken condom). The medication may prevent release of an egg, prohibit fertilization of an egg by thickening the vaginal fluids, or change the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.
