A congenital skin discoloration presenting as a distinct purple-to-blue area in the sacral region of children, commonly those of black, Asian, and American Indian ethnicities. Because they are due to melanocytes, they do not reduce with pressure, but fade over time. Sometimes mistaken for child abuse as appears similar to bruising.
