A descriptive Native American term referring to a person who has attributes of both masculine and feminine genders, holds distinct tribal gender and social roles, and who is often involved with rituals. Terminology may vary by tribe such as Ayagigux’/Tayagigux’ (Aleut), Hee-man-eh (Cheyenne), Ho’va (Hopi), Nedleeh (Navajo), and Tudayapi/Tuwasawuts (Paiute).
