A type of emergency contraception in which a certain combination of oral contraceptive pills is taken in 2 doses 12 hours apart to prevent implantation of a potentially fertilized egg. The number of pills taken varies by brand in achieving an effective dose of estradiol and levonorgestrel, and is recommended to be completed within 72 hours after unprotected penile-vaginal contact.
